Trippin Down Route 66
As we make our way from New Mexico up to the Grand Canyon there are so many historical Route 66 stops along the way. It took us a bit longer but we stopped to check some of them out!
First stop was the Bluewater Outpost. This place has so many authentic New Mexico souvenirs, food, clothing, and Indian Jewelry. Its very large and has a Dairy Queen attached. We had fun browsing in here.
Since we left in the evening we went as far as Gallup, NM. Located our trusty friend Walmart and parked there for the night. We do this often and I really enjoy it!
After some much needed sleep we were back on route 66 headed toward Arizona. The rocky scenery around the Arizona state line is beautiful.
Next up is Knife City! Located in Sun Valley, AZ. There were a bunch of advertisements for this place and it was pretty cool to see! They have knives of all different sizes and prices. They even had kitchen knives. As you can see this place is huge!
A few miles more down the road is Winslow, AZ. This place was put on the map by the famous Eagles song “Take it Easy” where they say they are standing on the corner in Winslow Arizona. They created a park named just that, so we went to check it out.
Unfortunately the intersection where the route 66 sign isnt closed off to traffic so picture taking there had to be quick. Too bad, I really wanted to stand in the road and have a nice picture.
There was a gift shop on the opposite corner with some neat souvenirs. I got a cool sticker for the RV fridge and watched the guy in the back making the T-shirts!
Next stop is Williams Arizona. This is what they call the gateway to the Grand Canyon. It is Route 66 themed, small and touristy. This is where the Grand Canyon train depot is located.
We stopped here to eat but the wait times for restaurants were 45 mins or more. We ate a sandwich in the RV and were back on the road.
Stay tuned for the next post. . . . . The Grand Canyon!!
