Driving the Tesla through Texas

Last time I took the Tesla on a road trip it was through Arizona and Nevada. I was interested to see how the superchargers were in Texas. So, this trip was a 12-hour drive from New Mexico to East Texas. The experience was surprising.

When I first navigated the course in the car it said I would be stopping at these stops. You will see that changed a little.

First Stop was Tucumcari New Mexico. This supercharger was much like the others in the previous posts, in that it is in a hotel parking lot. Although this is nice with bathrooms, if you wanted food you would need to walk to some of the nearby fast food. $22.36 to fill up and I was off to the next stop.

The next stop, about 2.5 hours later was in Amarillo, TX. This supercharger was located close by the Big Texan Restaurant at a large Valero station. This gas station had it all, tons of drinks, snacks, and several places to get hot food. The bathrooms were clean too. I grabbed a bite at Mitch’s BBQ while I waited, nothing like Texas BBQ am I right? Didnt need as much charge so it only cost $7.59

Next stop was Childress, TX. This Pak a Sak gas station had many options also, they had hot pizza and lots of snack items. Plus they had alot of locally made sweets and meat. Great place to stop. I charged up fully and paid $14.00

The next stop was in Henrietta, TX. This stop was fun, it had dinosaur statues out front and a Steak n Shake and Texas Best BBQ place inside. Plus lots of souvenirs and snacks. I ate some more Texas BBQ and paid $13.26 to fill up.

I spent a couple days in Dallas and didnt need to charge again til it was time to keep heading East. The next supercharger stop was in Dallas, TX at the Fuel City gas station and cost $9.60. This gas station was fun! They had a corral with donkeys, horses, and cows right next to the superchargers. Plus they had tons of snacks, drinks, and a little walk-up taco stand. I spotted some mini–Buttermilk Chess pies, had to grab a few. If you have never had Buttermilk Chess pie, you must try it!

And thats it! On the way back I hit all the same spots except for this stop in Denton, TX. This stop had 6 stalls and was nestled in a shopping center with plenty of shopping and food choices.

During the Thanksgiving holiday, Tesla made super charging free during off peak hours at specific locations. This was one of those locations. If I would have made it here prior to 9am, charging would have been free. I can tell you on my way here all the stalls were full :).

This was a great trip! I must say that the supercharger locations in Texas that I stopped at had alot more food and snack choices than the others I’ve experienced. It makes a huge difference to have these kinds of options at these chargers because it makes the trip more enjoyable and also makes the charging time pass quicker. And once again, this car has been the cheapest way to travel at $134 round trip for a 1500-mile trip. Thanks for trippin with me in my red Tesla!
