Sand, Sun, and Fun on the Beaches of Mexico
Last week we left the cool fall weather for the warm sandy beaches of Mexico! This was an amazing trip! From the beautiful resort, delicious food, exciting excursions, and relaxing beach oasis this is definitely a must do vacation!
AIRPORT/CUSTOMS
I was a little worried about getting through the airport and customs. It turned out to be very easy. On the plane ride over they flight attendants handed out the paper work you needed to enter the country. This was nice so you werent rushed to fill these forms out.
As you can see in the pictures below, it was quite busy and the lines were long. The whole thing probably took an hour.
Once through customs we needed to find a ride to the resort. There are so many people trying to get you to take a shuttle as you walk towards the street. Be careful, they are very aggressive and claim these rides are free but they aren’t, they are trying to sell you other things as well. We did not stop and continued to the street to get a taxi. Taxi cost $6 for the 4 of us.
There is a bar on the street that serves ice cold drinks. This was so refreshing after the flight.
THE RESORT
We stayed at the Raintree Club Regina resort. It was beautiful and very secure as you can see by the gated entrance.
They practiced Covid precautions which included masks worn indoors by all guests and masks worn both indoors and outdoors by all employees. They took our temperature and cleaned our bags prior to letting us enter.
The resort was open air and spacious with beautiful Mexican décor. There were many amenities including a fitness center, a couple bars and restaurants, and some gift shops.
Since there were 2 couples we reserved a 2 bedroom villa. There was a mini kitchen with a dining and living room area. There were 3 doors to enter this villa: 1 for the living area, and 1 for each of the rooms. The key card worked on all 3.
As you can see our view of the Ocean and pool area was spectacular.
The gift shop had food and necessities. It was cool to try different candy from the area. The hershey’s almond bar in Mexico tastes very different from the one in the US. This place was very pricey so we didnt buy too much here. Couldnt pass up the Frida shirt and hat though.
The pool has a swim up bar where you can order drinks and even food. the water was warm and there were lots of places to sit and carved out loungers in the pool to sit on. We saw Geckos every day, running up and down the palm trees and into the pool.
The Beach area was beautiful and kept very clean. It was private and owned by the resort so we never had a problem finding a shaded area to relax.
Every day this old man would dive for fresh Oysters then set up on a rock where he cracked and sold them. We bought some one day and they were the most delicious Oysters I’ve ever had!
HOTEL RESTAURANTS
TENAMPA: This was the restaurant next to the pool. Only open during lunch hours but was my favorite.
The drinks were ok, I wouldnt say they were the best but they were refreshing on a hot day. In the afternoons we played bingo around the pool for free. Of course none of us won 😀
They had so many options of beach/pool type foods that I loved! Pictured below are some chicken nachos with a bunch of sauces, club sandwich with waffle fries, Baja shrimp tacos, and the star of this show: Marlin tostadas. If you are ever anywhere where they serve Marlin it is a must try! So delicious and high in protein.
INIZO: This restaurant had the most breathtaking views along the ocean. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The ambiance was beautiful.
The food here was more upscale with dinner dishes. Pictured below are the Chicken Enchiladas, Grilled Mahi Mahi (the catch of the day) with risotto, and a shrimp and bacon fettucine alfredo.
They had steak, seafood, and pasta to choose from. All were very good.
We also ate here for the breakfast buffet in the mornings. There were definitely different choices. I didnt see any eggs although I was told you could order an omelet. We ate inside and it was just as nice.
Buffett’s are always such a pile but pictured below we had Chilaquiles, beans, stewed beef green chile, mini quesadillas, hashbrown patties, and pancakes. Not pictured, cuz we ate it too fast, was some fresh squeezed juices, and slices of thick bread with beans and melted cheese called molletes.
All of the restaurants on the property were very good. The dinners ran about $15 a plate, lunch around $10, and the breakfast buffet was pricey at $15. Most of the time we made a simple breakfast in our mini kitchen.
Grabbed some eggs, bacon (which is very different from the bacon in the US), bread, and tortillas for our breakfast each morning at the local Sam’s Club. The avocado and salsa were fresh from the corner store. And we still had that beautiful beach view from the table in our room.
The resort and all its amenities were very nice, it really sets you in the middle of a fancy tropical vacation. This place is part of a timeshare that our friends had, which is how the rooms are usually booked. You can book these suites online but there are black out dates. There are so many resorts in this area and I cant wait to go back and try another one!
Hope you enjoyed trippin with me to the beach. We did a bunch of excursions that I will post next!
