RV Trippin to Hatch NM and Elephant Butte Lake State Park

This weekend we took at quick trip up to Elephant Butte lake state park. The weather has been so nice lately and it was 73 degrees all day Saturday. Warm and sunny!

Ive been going to Elephant Butte, or as we call it “The Butte”, since I was a kid. This is one of my favorite lakes in New Mexico because you can camp right up against the water. Its a very popular lake and extremely busy during holidays in the summer. This weekend wasnt busy and it was nice and quiet.

We enjoy camping right next to the water, there is nothing better than falling asleep hearing those comforting sounds. When you are in an RV you have to be careful where you park at this lake because it is very easy to get stuck. We found a nice rocky spot. There are also hook up spots available but they are not on the water. $10 each night for camping/boondocking.

Look at that sunset!

Sunday morning was a little overcast so we got up and enjoyed some breakfast and coffee overlooking the lake, relaxed for a while, and had a nice walk.

The water levels at the Butte this year a alot higher than last year. Last year we were able to camp on that big island in the middle of the water in the picture below. Kinda crazy.

Next we were off to Hatch NM to see what kind of touristy stuff we could find. Saw some neat stuff on the way

Once you take the exit into Hatch there are a bunch of little shops along the road with great items. Here are some of the things we saw.

It was now lunchtime so we went over to Sparky’s World Famous Hamburgers. This place was so cool! There was a bunch of nostalgic decor inside and out and we had some fun with all that ambiance.

We ordered the world famous burgers with cheese and Hatch green chile. $10.95 each and includes one side and a drink. They were pretty good.

And that was it. With gas, boarding, and eating out food our total cost was $150. Nice little weekend trip with some much needed relaxation.
