Beyond Burger vs Trader Joes Dupe?
As you all know Im trying to eat more plant based meals and I find alot of good tasting meat replacements at Trader Joes. Well imagine my excitement when I saw a Trader Joe’s brand of the Beyond Burger! I just had to try it!
So here it goes, a review and comparison between my super favorite and especially delicious Beyond Burger and the new Trader Joes “beyond burger.”
PACKAGING:
The packaging is similar in how the cardboard wraps around the entire pacakge of two and u can see the actual raw burgers through the plastic on the sides.
COST:
Beyond Burger $5.99 Trader Joes Plant Based Burger $4.99
INGREDIENTS:
As you can see the nutrition facts are similar but theres a little more fat and less protein in the Trader Joes burgers. Im not a fan of that, but not too much of a difference so its not that big of a deal. Both use pea protein for protein content and Beyond uses coconut oil instead of Trader Joes with sunflower oil. Im not an expert in the oils so either one is fine with me.
COOKING AND TASTE:
As you can see the color of the burgers look different from each other. Beyond is brown while Trader Joes is pinkish. They maintained these colors and look after they were cooked.
Beyond Burgers are one of my favorite things. They get a crispy/grilled texture on the outside and taste like Ive made a burger on the grill. I love them and usually eat them once a week with some sweet potato fries.
Now I wish I had more pictures of the Trader Joe’s burgers to show you but after cooking these things and tasting them. . .
They were nothing like the Beyond burgers and didnt remotely taste like a real burger. In fact if I had to compare them to something I would say they were the same texture as a salmon patty. Im not a fan of the pink color either, weirds me out.
FINAL THOUGHTS
My husband loves eating the Beyond Burgers but hated the Trader Joe’s version so much that he refused to eat it after the first bite. I ate it but wasnt impressed. I will not be buying these again and wouldnt even consider them an appropriate dupe for the Beyond Burgers. Saving $1 is not worth it to me.
