Exploring New Mexico, Historic Las Vegas
Hi guys! I don’t know about you, but during this quarantine the main thing I’m missing the most is being able to travel all over. I was looking forward to taking you all on my exciting RV trips and just having a grand ole time. Instead, since we are not allowed to leave NM, and there are no campsites open . . . . back to our favorite town in New Mexico it is.
I really love New Mexican food and that is usually what we eat when we are in Las Vegas, NM. But since Im in desperate need of something new, we tried some new places and took a stroll along the plaza. Pretty cool what we saw!
When we first got into town, early on a Saturday, we saw the hustle and bustle of the Flea Market and stopped. Saw some really fun things there like these handmade old west art.
Look at these pretty Southwestern Earrings I found! No, those arent birds, they’re Alpacas 😀
Next we stopped at the Historic El Fidel Hotel. This hotel dates back to 1920s and used to be called ‘The Meadows.’ It is famous for a fight that broke out in the lobby where an innocent bystander got shot from a stray bullet.
Here are pictures of the inside, nicely preserved. There is a specialty coffee shop inside and they serve some tasty looking baked goods.
The restaurant is out back on the patio. Look how beautiful it is! There was a guy playing the guitar while we ate too!
They serve different food at different times of the day/days of the week. We were here during what they call the ‘Breakfast Club.’ We ordered pinneapple salsa and chips, a simple two egg breakfast that came with the most delicious potato and sweet potato medely, and some birthday cake crepes. mmmmmm
I would highly recommend this place for the ambiance and the food!
Next we strolled around the plaza area and went into some shops
Romero Firehouse still in operation
This place had some really cool windmills
This sign was along our walk with some unique art of Las Vegas, NM
After our nice tourist walk, we got back into the RV and headed for Storey Lake State Park.
This is a small lake, very quiet and tranquil. There were people out on boats and jet skis too.
We could only stay til 5pm so we made some delicious dinner and relaxed on the lake shore for a few.
On the way out of town we stopped for some provisions at Pedro’s Bakery. . . homemade tortillas and a cinnamon crisp. What’s a cinnamon crisp you say? I don’t really know but it was thin, crunchy, and cinnamon sugary.
Pedro’s Bakery is a local favorite, there is always a line.
Hope you enjoyed my short little quarantine trip. I hope to go on some more soon. If you are ever around Las Vegas, NM definitely try some of these places, they will not disappoint! Stay safe all!
