Cajun Eats on the Bayou
We took a detour to visit Caddo Lake in Karnack Texas. This lake is right on the Texas Louisiana border and is so unique looking we just couldn’t pass it up!
I’ve never been anywhere where the trees droop down like this, it was definitely the feel of the Bayou.
We found a restaurant that sits right on the Caddo lake so we could experience everything this area had to offer.
Big Pines Lodge was such a unique experience and we sat on the patio to take in the wonderful views of this, as they call it, waterin’ hole.
Look at that fantastic view from our table! So much fun!
While we waited for our food we saw tourists boarding a ‘Swamp Tours’ boat. These tours are about 1.5 hours long and run all day. The company is called ‘Captain Ron’s Swamp Tours’ (hilarious right?!) They were all booked up so we couldn’t go.
The food was Cajun fare and sooo good. Before the food arrived they brought us coleslaw, chow chow (pickled green tomatoes), and hushpuppies that were long instead of in balls.
The Catfish was the freshest I have ever tasted and the burger was on homemade jalapeno sourdough bread and HUGE. We loved everything here! Since Catfish was on special we really only spent about $11 a plate, not bad for the ambiance.
After our bellies were full we explored the Bayou surrounding the restaurant.
In addition to tours there were private boats and water skiers enjoying the day. Can you spot the big foot?
It was soo hot and humid out here but so beautiful! Im glad we were able to make a pit stop and enjoy the sights!
