Camping in Villanueva, NM

Tucked away in Northern New Mexico is a little town called Villanueva. Villanueva was founded in 1808, originally named La Cuesta.

Villanueva State Park is a small campground that’s located within a canyon along the Pecos River. It has about 36 small campsites, mostly non hookups. It is a quick drive off I-40 and the views are breathtaking.

The road into the campground is nice and paved and there is a gate you must pass through. They close this gate at 7pm creating a safer environment for the campers inside. Overnight camping was $10 per night. Our campsite was reserved online, which I suggest, because everything looked pretty booked on the weekend we spent there.

I was with a bunch of friends so the campsite we reserved was a cul de sac. (sites16,17, &18) no hookups and tons of space.

There are some great hiking trails just steps from the campgrounds. The river made this place so cool and fresh it felt great to walk around and see the views.

A couple more views from our campsite. So refreshing to wake up to!

From Frozen birthday cakes to tasty Charcuterie boards, this weekend was filled with friends, food, fun, and relaxation.
